There are towns that I just don't like, like Tours, the shithole, and then there are towns that I fall in love with immediately, like Anger. Why? In both cases, it's relatively simple. Anger is really pretty as a picture, a beautiful old town, a very beautiful old town, modernly renovated, little garbage and green. So a lot of things that Tours didn't have. What else happened today? Not much. As expected, things went better on the third day, despite the headwind. It was blowing pretty hard, luckily I was often in forests where it wasn't blowing, but especially the last 20 km were hard. But today it didn't bother me that much, I could cope with it, I just had to pedal a bit harder. There really are a lot of cyclists here in the Loire Valley. Sometimes you can't even get out of saying bonjour with all the oncoming traffic. At lunchtime or when it rains, which it did today, or when the sun is shining, all the rest stops are packed, which is always the case. And what you overtake on the route, one look at the faces says it all. It doesn't look like fun with the fathers of the families, who ride in the wind in front, in low gear and the family in the slipstream behind them and I happily whistle a hearty Bonjour yowling past them. Oh, I'm having fun. The rain today was something I've never experienced before. Several sprinkles, very fine, almost like fog, I hardly got wet, it was more like cooling and then it was over again and the sun came out briefly before the rain started again. I didn't fish out my rain gear once, it was quite pleasant. The first 60 km or 80 km I rode in a kind of national park along an embankment, sometimes with traffic, sometimes without. With a few small villages along the way, all pretty, old walls and all. I loved it, all in all I had fun, unfortunately it will soon be over again, so I'll continue to enjoy it tomorrow, on that note.
